DESIGN
The Leopard 2 is the best known and most
used Eurpean tank. The Leopard 2A4 has a
distinctive angular appearance, because of
its composite armor. It has a powerful 120mm
smoothbore cannon. The Leopard 2 versions,
which are fitted with the improved turret
armor are called KWS. That stands for ‘KampfWert
Steigerte’ Aufürung or combat improved version.
Later a 55 calibre cannon was added. In the
future a 140mm cannon will be optional. |
| This is the first Leopard 2. The versions
A0 up to A4 are very similar. There are only
a few minor changes, which do not alter the
statistics. |
| The Leopard 2A5 is the KWS version of the
2A4. It has much better turret armor. That
makes it the worlds best protected tank.
The front turret armor is the equivalent
of 1.5 meters steel! |
| The Leopard 2S was developed for Sweden.
It is a Leopard 2A5 with EX armor. It has
different electronics and smoke system. In
Sweden it is known as the Strv.122 or Stridsvagn
122. |
| The Leopard 2A6 is similar to the A5, but
has a 55 calibre cannon. The 55 calibre cannon
has a longer range and more power. |
| The Leopard 2A6 EX is a normal A6 fitted
with extra armor. The hull front, hull sides
and turret roof are uparmoured. The extra
turret armor is against top-attack weapons. |
PERFORMANCE
The Apache is the best combat helicopter
in full production. It has a special forward
looking infrared sighting system, known as
TADS, fitted in the nose of the aircraft.
In combination with its Hellfire missiles
it can destroy all known tanks at a very
long range under all conditions. Its 30mm
autocannon is very effective against light
armor and vehicles. The Apache has good countermeasure
systems and is also well armoured and therefore
immune versus small arms fire and can survive
some hits by 23mm projectiles.
