LOTOS-EUROS aerosol analysis system
for
GMES service element PROMOTE
Under the GMES service element PROMOTE,
TNO is providing a demonstration service for assimilated fields of AOD and
therewith fine particulate matter
The LOTOS-EUROS aerosol analysis system in based on the following ingredients:
- The LOTOS-EUROS chemistry transport model
- Aerosol Optical Depth data, in the demonstration system from the ATSR instrument
- An Ensemble Kalman Filter Data assimilation scheme
For a more detailed specification of the service we refer to the
S5 service specifications document , paragraph 3.6.2.3
The output of the service are fields of AOD on an hour-by-hour basis and from that
derived fields of ground level PM2.5 concentrations on an hour-by-hour basis over Europe.
An example of such a derived PM2.5 field is given here:
Figure 1. Modelled annual mean PM2.5 concentration over Europe for 2000. Unit: micrograms per cubic meter
To demonstrate the service daily fields for AOD in May 2000 can be viewed below.
The pictures show 4 windows, top left: measured AOD, top right: standard deviation in the measurement, bottom left: modelled AOD and bottom right: assimilated AOD)
