 Een goede reisgids in je rugzak of schoudertas is onontbeerlijk wanneer je in India ongeorganiseerd rondreist. 

Hou er wel rekening mee dat veel reisgidsen snel verouderen. De beste gidsen zijn volgens ons die van Lonely Planet in de serie Travel Survival Kit. Ze worden ook regelmatig geactualiseerd. 

Er zijn ook Nederlandstalige gidsen en reishandboeken, maar die kunnen wat praktische waarde betreft niet tegen hun Engelstalige broers op.
