general

Syntus is founded in 1999 by Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), Connexxion and French company Cariane Multimodal International (CMI, now Keolis). In 2007 Connexxion sells its shares to the other shareholders.

Syntus means Synergy between train and bus.

Syntus its area of transportation is mainly in the eastern part of the Netherlands.

weekenddagkaart

Syntus introduces in september 2004 the Weekenddagkaart (Weekend day rover). This day rover is based on the German Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket (Beautiful Weekend Ticket). After a 4-month trial period the ticket becomes definitive in 2005.

rules:
• valid on saterday, sunday or a holiday
• valid in all Syntus trains and buses, except nighttrains and nightbuses
• valid for 2 adults 3 children (4-11 years)

In june 2005 the validaty is expanded to the buses of BBA (now Veolia) in the Veluwe-area and the buses of Arriva in the Rivierenland-area. In the same month the province Gelderland starts a campaign to promote the Weekenddagkaart. The railwayservice Zutphen - Apeldoorn by NS is added in 2006.

After two years, in 2007, the province stops the campaign. Sales have risen only in the Achterhoek-area. Especially in the Rivierenland-area sales are disappointing. The province believes this is due to the limited operating schedule in this area. The Weekenddagkaart is succesfull in the Achterhoek-area. According to the the province this is due to the possibility of using the ticket in trains in the Achterhoek.

superticket

As a replacement for the Weekenddagkaart Syntus introduces in july 2008 the Superticket. This dayrover has the same rules as the Weekenddagkaart with a few exceptions.

• The ticket is only valid in Syntus buses and trains.
• In Syntus buses the ticket is valid during the entire week.
