Ik speel
clavecimbel sinds 1992 en blokfluiten
sinds 1962. Het clavecimbel fascineerde mij sinds ca 1960, toen ik concerten van het
Nederlands Kamerorkest bezocht in het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam hoorde waarbij Janny van
Wering clavecimbel speelde. Ik was echter pas in 1992 in de gelegenheid om zelf een
instrument aan te schaffen. |
I have
played the harpsichord since 1992 and recorders
since 1962. The harpsichord fascinated me since the time I heard concertoes by the Dutch
Chamber Orchestra about 1960 in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, where the harpsichord was
played by Janny van Wering. However, it was only in 1992 that I had the opportunity to
acquire an instrument. |

Mijn
carrière als amateur- musicus is begonnen in 1952 in het koor van de R.K. St.
Gregoriusparochie te IJmuiden. Van 1948-1953 heb ik in Ijmuiden gewoond. Naar aanleiding daarvan heb ik in 2006 een blokfluitkwartet
geschreven gebasserd op straatroepen en andere geluiden, onder de titel IJmuiden 1953. Het
is vrij van auteursrecht en u kunt het in pdf en midi downloaden.
Mijn doctoraal examen Oud-Grieks en Latijn aan de
Universiteit van Amsterdam (1970) omvatte tevens de "Eenstemmige muziek van de
oudheid en de middeleeuwen", gegeven door Jos. Smits van Waesberghe.
Omstreeks 1980 ben ik opnieuw aan de koorzang
begonnen, vanaf de oprichting in 1984 als lid van de Schola cantorum Gregoriana Assen,
verbonden aan de R.K. parochie Maria ten Hemelopneming te Assen. Het koor is geleidelijk
overgegaan tot de interpretatie van de Gregoriaanse muziek volgens
de inzichten van Eugène
Cardine en Alberto
Turco en sinds 2004 zet ik dat voort als dirgent.
Uit de kerkmuziek komt mijn voorkeur voor de
polyfonie uit de 15-de en 16-de eeuw. |
My career
as an amateur- musician began in 1952 in the choir of the R.C. Parish St. Gregory in
IJmuiden. I lived in IJmuiden from 1948 until 1953. Remembering those years I composed a recorder quartet entitled
"IJmuiden 1953", based on street calls and other sounds. It is free of copyright
and may be downloaded in pdf and midi.
I graduated in 1970 at the University of
Amsterdam; the degree included Ancient Greek, Latin and "One-voice music of the
Antiquity and Middle Ages", read by Jos. Smits van Waesberghe.
About 1980 I restarted singing plain chant, from
its foundation in 1984 as a member of the Schola cantorum Gregoriana Assen, founded in
1984 as one of the choirs of the R.C. parish of St. Mary Ascension at Assen. The choir
gradually changed the performance practice of the Gregorian plainchant according to the
principles of Eugène
Cardine and Alberto
Turco and since becoming the conductor of the choir in 2004 I have tried to continue
that.
My preference of 15th and 16th century polyphony
has arisen from church music. |

Mijn
professionele carrière heeft met de muziek weinig uit te staan. Voor en na mijn doctoraal
examen heb ik een aantal jaren in het voortgezet onderwijs gewerkt. Vanaf 1975 ben ik
provinciaal archiefinspecteur in Drenthe en sinds 1992 tevens in Friesland en Groningen
geweest, tot mijn vervroegde uittreding in 2005. Een groot aantal jaren ben ik docent
archivistiek geweest aan de Rijksarchiefschool te 's Gravenhage. Ik heb veel gepubliceerd
over archief- beheer en archivistiek, bestuursgeschiedenis en de lokale en
regionale geschiedenis in Drenthe. |
My
professional career has nothing to do with music. Before and after my university exam I
worked a number of years as a teacher in secondary schools. From 1975 I was an inspector
of records and archives in the province of Drenthe, and since 1992 also in the provinces
of Friesland and Groningen, until my retirement in 2005. Quite a number of years I was a
teacher of archival science at the Rijksarchiefschool in The Hague. I published a lot on
records and archive management, archival science, administrative history and local and
regional history of Drenthe, nearly all in Dutch. |
