Brief Description

The birth certificate for son Thomas Trevan shows that John Williams Trevan was born in Camborne, Cornwall in c1835 and that he was illiterate. It also shows that his mother Mary nee Hambley was born in Illogan, Cornwall in c1834.

John Williams Trevan emigrated to Australia on "The Rajah" in c1848 with his parents and the rest of his family.

He married in Castlemain, Victoria on 3 Jan 1856, to Mary Hambly, according to their son Thomas's birth certificate. Unfortunately I have only a partial copy of the certificate so the date of birth is not shown. The date of registration is 19 Jun 1858, so it would be shortly before that.

The marriage certificate shows that neither John nor Mary had been married before and that they were Church of England. Both lived in Campbell's Creek and both were illiterate. The place of birth was shown as Illogan for both.

Eldest son John was born in Castlemain, Victoria, and the next 2 children, Thomas Williams Trevan and Sarah Jane Trevan, were both born in Creswick.

Mary was buried as Mary Williams Trevan aged 39 years on 4 Dec 1871 and was Church of England.

All 3 sons by his second marriage were buried in the same cemetry. The eldest 2 were shown as Church of England and the youngest as Wesleyan. William Henry Trevan aged 3 months was buried 7 Dec 1875; Albert William Trevan age 6 weeks was buried 21 Jan 1876 and Alfred Edward Trevan was buried age 7 weeks on 9 Apr 1877.

Louisa had a daughter by her previous marriage to Henry Knight.

John Williams Trevan died on 22 Jun 1881 in Clunes, Ballarat and was buried in the Clunes cemetary 2 days later.
