Trevains / Treveans / Trevaynes Extracts from Some Parishes on Bodmin Moor

It seems that the Treveans / Trevaynes / Trevains family as found on the parishes on Bodmin Moor are all descended from John Treveans and Sarah nee Stephen.

The Trevan entries are for William and Jane, who form part of my main tree of descendents from John Treveighen / Trevane / Trevan and Francis nee Moar.

All likely variants of spellings derived from the old family name of Treveighen are included in this file.

The known variants are

  1. Terveans
  2. Tervens
  3. Trevain
  4. Trevaine
  5. Trevaines
  6. Trevains
  7. Trevan
  8. Trevanagh (should be Trevaghan?)
  9. Trevane
  10. Trevayne
  11. Trevaynes
  12. Trevean
  13. Treveans
  14. Trevehen
  15. Treveighan
  16. Treveighen
  17. Treveighens
  18. Treveins
  19. Trevigan
  20. Trevigen
  21. Trevighan
  22. Trevighen

Alternun

Registration District: Launceston Map; CFHS description;
Pop. 1801 - 679; 1851 - 1382; 1871 - 1198; 1931 - 694; 1991 - 852

Parish Registers

Bolventor was part of Altarnun until 1846. The 1871 population figure above includes Bolventor.

I searched the marriage registers from 1837 until 1900 and found nothing. The nearest names are Trevina (presumably a variant of Trevena) and Tremain.

The reason for checking this parish is because it is shown in the census returns as the birth place of at least one Trevains spouse and it also mentioned in at least one will.

The Barber family lived here after Eliza daughter of John and Elizabeth married John Barber in Bolventor.

Blisland

Registration District: Bodmin - Map; CFHS description;
Pop. 1801 - 437; 1841 - 688; 1871 - 612; 1931 - 536; 1991 - 594

Cornish Forefather Society note that there are letters of administration dated 22 Jun 1850 for a John Trevain, yeoman of Blisland, died 2 Oct 1842 whose wife was Elizabeth.

Parish Registers

The periods for which the micro-fiches of the registers were searched are: Note: No marriages in 1732, 1733, 1735, 1737, 1739, 1747, 1750, 1754, 1763, 1766, 1775, 1776, 1777.
Note: No burials in 1724, 1725, 1735, 1736, 1737, 1738

So does this mean there were no marriages or burials in these years, or that the sheets of paper were lost before they were bound into a book, or were they missed during the micro-fiching process? I only checked the dates on the earlier of the 2 fiche, since I am also searching everywhere for an elusive marriage in the 1745-55 period between Matthew Trevan and Elizabeth nee Stephens.

Other Family Names on my Tree

I stopped looking for Lord from 1795. My interest is in finding relations of Frances nee Lord who married Sampson Trevan in 1775 since I have yet to find her baptism and parents. They were my great-great-great-great-great-grandparents.

My Coule interest is that Dorcas Coule (1797-) (who was baptised in St Austell, daughter of Richard according to the IGI) married John Henwood (1793-1869) on 17 May 1818 according to the family prayer book.

Bolventor

Registration District: Launceston - Map | CFHS description
Pop. 1931 - 259

Bolventor is a modern parish which was created in 1846. It's name comes from the Bold Venture of establishing farmland on a high area of Bodmin moor. Prior to that the land lay in the parishes of Alternun and St Neot.
