Brief Description

Henry was born 19 Jul 1888 at New Ferry, Cheshire. At the time of the 1901 census he was at home with his parents in Birkenhead. He emigrated to Australia as a seaman in the early 1900s. He worked on sheep farms in New Zealand and then as a steward on passenger ships plying between Sydney and San Francisco. He married Ethel Margueritte Evans in 1917 at the Pitt Street Congregational Church, Sydney. She was the youngest child of John William Evans and Rosemary nee West of Allawah, NSW. After their marriage they managed various NSW Railway Refreshment Rooms. On their retirement c1948 they lived at 35 Tanners Avwnue, Allawah, NSW.

Henry died 30 Jan 1970, age 81, and his remains are interred in Worona Cemetry, Sydney. Ethel died 6 Aug 1988 at the Masonic Retirement Village, Glenfield, NSW. Her remains are interred in the memorial garden of the Church of the Ascension, East Burwood, Victoria. (Source: Keith Trevan)
