Brief Description

This John was born and baptised as a Treveighen in the parish of Antony on 23 Nov 1730. His family moved to the neighbouring parish of St Germans while he was a baby, where they stayed for several decades. He was still living there when he was married as John Trevane to Honour Spillar in the parish of St Germans in Dec 1757. They stayed in the parish for at least 10 years as all 4 of their known children were baptised there between 1758 and 1767. Their 3rd child, Jane, was also buried there in 1767.

Some time between 1767 and 1804 they moved to live in Stoke Damerel. Certainly daughter Honour was living there by 1783 when she married. Possibly parents John and Honour lived with eldest son John, who rented a property in Granby Street, Stoke Damerel in 1797. He and Honour were buried with their surnames spelt as Trevan in Stoke Damerel. Various members of the Spillar family were buried in the neighbouring graves.

Letters: There is a letter at the WDRO in Plymouth ref. 112/162 dated 1789 from John Trevan, Officeman at the Gunwharf, requesting that he come ashore. This could be either of these John's or possibly John Archer Trevan.
