The Basic Approach to Genealogy

  1. Start with yourself
    • Collect written evidence about your birth
    • Your birth certificate / baptism entry will give the names of your parents among other information
  2. Find your parents
    • Collect written evidence about their marriage
    • Their marriage certificate / marriage entry will give the names and professions of their fathers among other information
  3. For each parent, go to step 1 and repeat
