Malcolm became King of Scotland in 1058 after killing his two predecessors: MacBeth (who had killed Malcolm's father) in
1057 and MacBeth's son and successor Lulach in the following year. Malcolm's wife Margaret was the sister of Edgar II Aetheling, King of England, who was married to Malcolm's sister Margaret.

Donald Ban became King in 1093 as the successor of his brother Malcolm III, until he was deposed in 1094 by Duncan II,
Ingibjorg's son, who was supported by the English. Duncan II's reign ended when he was killed the same year, possibly by Donald Ban himself, who was then restored to the throne of Scotland.
