The name Jan-maagh Gerritsz is very unusual for a woman, but this is how it was written down in the official archives. The name Gerritsz means "son of Gerrit". Gerrit could have been the first name of Jan-maagh's father, it was probably not a family name. There is a chance that she was related to Catharina Gerritsen, also from Schokland, but it is unlikely that she was related to Geertien Gerrits from Zwolle or to Jan Gerrits from Goeree-Overflakkee.
