The name Hoevenaars means "pachter of gebruiker van een hoeve" (someone who exploits a farm, but who is not the owner). A genealogical book was written on Willem Anthonissen Adriaenssen ("Hoevenaar") (1610?-1671?) and his descendants until the present day (Published by Adriaan and Antoon Hoevenaars, Rijen/Berkel Enschot, December 1996). This family is from Gilze and Rijen in the west of the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant. Our own ancestor Cornelia Hoevenaars may have been related, but she or her husband is not mentioned in this book.
