Engelbert's wife Mechtild was the great-great-granddaughter of Arnold I, "heer" van Altena and Mechtild van Holte, see above.
Engelbert and Mechtild's eldest son Adolf II inherited the title of Count van der Marck. Their second son Engelbert became Prince-Bishop of Liège, and their third son Eberhard (1310?-1387) inherited Arberg (Arenberg). In 1351, this Eberhard van der Marck Arenberg married Maria of Looz (1330?-1400), the daughter of Louis of Looz, the last male (1300-1345) and Yolande of Oudenaerde. This marriage may have provided some sort of legal ground for Eberhard's elder brother, Prince-Bishop Engelbert, to break his promise to the Heinsberg family and to add the county of Looz to his own Bishopric of Liège.
