Arent was a member of the "houtkopersgilde" (the wood merchant's guild), "schepen of Dordrecht between 1638 and 1645, and "ambachtsheer" of Rijsoord. He owned an exceptionally beautiful house according to his contemporaries, and eventually he was buried in great style in the "Grote Kerk" in Dordrecht. An indication of his enormous wealth would be the personal possessions of his youngest (eleventh!) child, his daughter Anna Maria Sonnemans, see below.

* 31-3-1645 (Dordrecht) x Dirck ten Hage (around 1682) + ? (between 23-11-1734 and 9-2-1735)
At the time of her death Anna Maria personally owned sixteen houses, agriculture lands with a total surface of 95 "morgen", as well as a considerable amount of jewellery and silver objects and bonds. Anna Maria was possibly deceived by her youngest son Jacob ten Hage who managed to become the heir to most of his mother's possessions, at the expense of his elder sister Johanna Catharina ten Hage. For more on this (and for her descendants) see the page on Ten Hage
