Occupation: owner of land and slaves in Curaçao, part of the Netherlands Antilles. His wife, our great-great-great-great-great-grandmother Sara was a black woman, probably the daughter of Anthonie Bertrant (or Beltran or Beltrand), the "captain of the free negroes" (as opposed to the blacks who were still slaves) who with his men had helped to suppress a slave uprising in 1750.

Jannetje (or Jannette) Wossum

Jannetje and her young children were left by her husband Adam Rauws in 1792, who had fled because of his opposition to the "Patriotten", the French-inspired revolutionaries in Holland, and because of accusations of fraud.
