Renault 20/30 - introduction After the second world war Renault was very succesfull with it's smaller cars. The first attempt to go upmarket in the 50's (the Renault Fregate) failed. But in 1975 Renault introduced the Renault 30 TS, a large car, with the 2664 cm3 V6-engine with 135 HP. This engine was developed together with Peugeot and Volvo, so it's often referred to as the PRV-engine. The Renault 30 TS was available with a 4-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic gearbox. Soon after the Renault 30, the Renault 20 TL was introduced. It had the R30 body (only with square headlights in stead of 4 round ones), but it had the 4 cylinder 1647 cm3, 96 HP engine known from the R16 TX. With the R30 being quite expensive and the R20 having an engine which was a bit too small for the car, the 1977 R20 TS was the solution. A new developed 1995 cm3, 110 HP engine suited the Renault 20 perfectly. Until 1984 the R20/30 series developed further with the R20 diesel, the R30 TX with fuel-injection, the R30 Turbo-D and the R20 TX 2.2Litres (2165 cm3, 116 hp). Only very few still exist here in the Netherlands ![]() Links to Renault 20/30 sites: |
