 The Converting Process

I bought the car on 18 March 2000 from a person who had to get sell it, because he began his own business. I
started with the look of the car like it is on the first photos below, so it already looked great for a K.I.T.T. replica.
The basis was perfect, because it already had almost all of the most important parts on it, like the correct hood,
front fenders, rear bumper, spoiler, mirrors and also the cargo cover in the trunk. The only parts that were still
missing were the PMD seats and the 15 inch turbo cast rims with the "bowling ball" hubcaps. The second owner
from who I had bought the car, had repainted it in '94.

The owner also had sold the original interior and replaced it by a '91 interior, so I had the luck that it was the tan
interior. It's not exactly the correct color tan, because it' s a little darker then the interior K.I.T.T. has. It's in perfect
condition and the front and rear seats are from leather, the front seats are also electric. Most parts of the interior
will be replaced, the door panels, front and rear seats will be sold then. The center console lid was missing and
the plastic panel in the hatch and the door sill plates were black, so they certainly needed to be replaced. Later I
found a '84 Pontiac Trans AM on a junkyard close to where I lived, and it still had some useful parts on it, like the
black plastic frames for around the door handles...which I didn't had yet, also electric mirrors, automatic trunk
release, black arm rests and a black turn signal lever.

The car also already had the black leather cargo cover to cover the trunk compartment. Later I removed the
"recaro"emblems from the door handles on the outside of the car, and painted the handles myself. The second
owner also had replaced all the rubbers on the car, but the one around the drivers T-top it wasn't glued very well
at the front side, because there was a lot of water between the rubber and the metal frame of the car itself. So I
removed the water and glued the rubber again, this to prevent it could started to rust. All the old rubbers were
already replaced by brand new ones.
