Cochin Ceramic

We first came accross these wonderful teapots on a trade show in the UK. We love them so much that we offer you the possibility of owning your own.

The Chinese name each year after an animal an it is their belief that the year you are born in will determine large part of you personality. We do not know if this is true, but we do see some parallels indeed. See for yousrelves in our shop. We have listed a selection on this page.

Born in 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954,1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014.

HORSE: Your capacity for hard work is amazing. Your are your own person-very independent. While intelligent and friendly, you have a strong streak of selfishness and sharp cunning and should guard against being egotistical. The only long-time ceramic tradition that involved artistic considerations was Cochin ware, a folk craft originally from Kwangtung and brought to Taiwan in the 19th century. At that time, Cochin ware consisted mainly of decorations for the walls and roof ridges of temples, including human figures, animals, birds, and flowers in bright, glossy colors. Today, there are only a handful of craftspeople who still possess the traditional Cochin skills, most of whom are in the central-island city of Chiayi. Read more
