FINDHORN COMMUNITY SPRING 2004

Its April and the last week of our two months period into visiting ecovillages and tasting the alternative lifestyle. We drove from the Isle of Erraid to Findhorn on a beautifull saterday and arrived on the Findhorn Bay Caravan Park in the late afternoon. We've booked by telephone and we had a place to stay right away. The caravan was great, but as you can see on the picture there were lots of them. Its not the image you would expect from Findhorn. Surely you would expect to see trailers or caravans but not in a line like this without much fantasy. On top of that its right next to a military airbase where they train new pilots. A big contrast after spending three weeks on a small tiny island.

Findhorn it self is right next to the caravan park. Its just like a little village really. You have everything. You can see its an active community which still sparkles with energy. It shows in many little things which are done with great attention. The old caravan where Peter and Eileen Caddy started the Findhorn Foundation is still there as a little museum. Eileen Caddy is still living in the park in a little wooden house called Corner Stone.
The communial buildings are very well designed and mostly made out of ecological wood and they just look great and they fit well within the organic way of life in Findhorn.

There are also lots of new developments going on. There are some very well designed wooden houses on the forest border. Gardens are public or semi private and many times its not clear if you are walking through public or private ground. The overall feeling is very friendly and natural if we would build all our towns like this we might be able to be in closer contact with nature instead of seperating it form eachother.
